The Pneu-Back Program is an advanced treatment system based on extensive research of postural and muscular imbalances and the treatment necessary to restore those imbalances. The program itself is an aggressive, documentable approach to proactive and reactive treatment of back problems. The emphasis is on posture, flexibility, functional strength, and lifetime skills. The Pneu-Back system is comprised of three basic pieces of equipment.
|
Maps the spine
Quantifies postural curves
Helps determine postural deficiencies
Monitors patient progress
The use of this determines the protocols or the recommendations for the Pneu-Back Chair. |
- Trains proprio and neuro receptors to begin recognizing and maintaining a new postural alignment at specific levels of involvement in the spine.
- Allows for strengthening of specific levels along the vertebral column.
- Isolates and mobilizes those levels.

By applying three basic unweighted treadmill tests, muscular imbalances are found to create a treatment protocol to correct them.
- The first test is forward walking on the treadmill while unweighted. We are looking for any irregular strides patterns. The most common thing we observe will be a tendency to toe-in (internal rotation) or toe-out (external rotation), poor pelvic stability (swinging hips), a circular gait pattern (stiff ankles), and lack of coordination and support between upper and lower extremities (stiff arms and having to hold on to the treadmill).
- The second test we utilize is lateral side stepping. When conducting this test, we usually see a marked contrast in ability between one side and the other. We tend to see toeing ability to maintain balance at the set speed.
- The third test we use is retro walking. We typically see minimal hip extension on one side or the other or both, poor pelvic stability when attemtping additional extension, and poor coordination and support between upper and lower extremities.
